Event: Legal Essentials for Writers – Maine Writers & Publishers Alliance

A BUSINESS OF WRITING PRESENTATION

What elements of a book or manuscript can and can’t be protected by copyright? Should you copyright your work-in-progress? How do you evaluate whether or not a book contract is fair and favorable to you, the author? What kinds of potential legal pitfalls should you be aware of if you write about real people?

Writers often have questions about navigating the legal aspects of being a creative. In this talk, attorney (and former MWPA board member) Jeff Joyce will delve into the essentials every writer should know. There will also be ample time for Q&A.
