Brownfields Redevelopment

We have successfully assisted local businesses and municipalities in redeveloping contaminated property for more than 20 years. Brownfield redevelopment projects include: assisting two communities to secure resources to clean up and redevelop two former papermill sites, producing of jobs to the local communities, and assisting other communities with cost recovery efforts to secure resources to clean up and develop multi-use waterfront sites.

In addition to the larger, notable brownfields redevelopment projects, we have been successful in assisting other property owners to redevelop numerous other smaller properties that would otherwise remain contaminated and unused. Utilizing both the State and federal Brownfields programs, along with the State Voluntary Response Action Program, we have assisted in the redevelopment of former factories, drycleaning facilities, gas stations and bulk oil facilities.

Environmental Due Diligence and Commercial Transactions

Our Group regularly assists our clients by conducting environmental due diligence related to commercial and real estate transactions. Together with environmental consultants, we identify potential environmental issues of concern and work with the appropriate local, State or Federal agencies to secure liability protections for our clients.

Natural Resource Protection and Permitting

We assist hundreds of clients every year acquire permits to use or develop their property in protected natural resource areas. We have most recently assisted clients navigate regulations related to vernal pools, shorebird and wading bird habitat and wetlands, and have negotiated successful results on behalf of these clients with Maine Department of Environmental Protection, US Army Corps of Engineers, US Environmental Protection Agency and National Marine Fisheries Service.
