The Employee Relations and Benefits Practice Group is chaired by Clare Hudson Payne, working with Thomas C. Johnston, Thad B. Zmistowski, Matthew S. Raynes and Sarah E. McCarthy. Additionally, Christine Burke Worthen provides advice on benefit plans. This Group represents clients, generally employers, in responding to organization campaigns, strikes and other concerted employee action, in collective bargaining negotiations and in proceedings before the National and Maine Labor Relations Boards, the State and Federal Departments of Labor, EEOC, the Maine Human Rights Commission, OSHA, the Unemployment Insurance Commission, and before arbitrators and the courts. We also provide extensive preventive services by developing employment manuals and policies, employment agreements, and training programs on such topics as work-place harassment and employer-employee rights and responsibilities. We are joined by attorneys practicing in the areas of taxation and intellectual property to develop employee benefit plans and to anticipate and respond to questions concerning the ownership and use of inventions and copyrightable materials and disputes over the respective rights and obligations of employer and former employee.
