Mat has over twenty years of experience in economic development and planning. He most recently served as the Director of Economic and Community Development for the Town of Brunswick, Maine. Prior to that, Mat served in the same capacity for the City of Westbrook, Maine after having spent several years working in research, planning and development for the Maine State Housing Authority, the City of Bath, the Greater Portland Council of Governments and the Town of Brunswick, as well as planning agencies in New Hampshire. His extensive experience includes:

Secured up to $1.5 million in grants from EDA, MITF, and CDBG to implement the Maine Street Station redevelopment program to construct a multi-modal center.

Authored the Brunswick Brownfield Program, resulting in the award of assessment and cleanup grants of $750,000 for the Maine Street Station redevelopment project.

Authored the Harbor Technologies CDBG grant that resulted in receipt of a grant and loans to build speculation building which was later sold and the proceeds used to create revolving loan funds.

Received EPA Brownfield planning grant of $250,000 and a MITF Grant that resulted in the redevelopment of sites in downtown Brunswick, with a total value to the community is in excess of $30 million and 750 new jobs.

Authored the Brown Street Revitalization Program which resulted in up to $1.2 million in grants from MSHA, CDBG, Federal Home Loan Bank, PROP, and HUD for the rehabilitation of Brown and Main Streets, which was critical to altering the "face" of Westbrook.

Worked with congressional representatives to secure the $1.25 million Westbrook Intermodal Center Grant for the development of a downtown parking garage.

Authored the Route 302 Smart Growth Program resulting in the receipt of a planning grant for a municipally based smart growth project proposing to mix commercial, retail, light industrial and residential development.

Coordinated work with the Westbrook Housing Authority to successfully receive $5 million in housing tax credits and loans to rehabilitate the Westbrook High School into senior citizen housing.
