Status of LIFE Act extension

Before the events of September 11th, Congress was considering an extension of the LIFE Act, which allowed aliens who had pending labor certifications or immigrant petitions as of April 30, 2001 to pay a penalty and adjust status despite previous unlawful presence. Although the President supports extension (the latest version of which would have extended the LIFE Act to April 30, 2002) this effort has bogged down.
