Public Health Security and Bioterrorism Preparedness and Response Act of 2002

In response to concerns about domestic terrorism, in particular bioterrorism affecting the U.S. food supply, Congress enacted the Public Health Security and Bioterrorism Preparedness and Response Act of 2002 (the Act). Pursuant to the Act, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has instituted new requirements applicable to those who manufacture or process, pack or store food articles for U.S. consumption. The Act defines food as articles for food or drink for man or other animals, chewing gum, and other articles, including but not limited to fruits, vegetables, raw agricultural commodities for use as food or as components of food, food and feed ingredients, food and feed additives, infant formula, dietary supplements, live food animals and canned goods
