Online filing of certain immigration applications to begin. 05.07.03
Beginning May 29, 2003, the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services ("BCIS") plans to allow online filing of two commonly filed immigration applications: 1) the Application for Employment Authorization or I-765; and 2) the Application to Replace Permanent Resident (Green) Card or I-90.
The BCIS Fact Sheet describing this new service may be found by clicking

Aliens filing these applications online will not submit photographs at the time of filing. Rather, they will still need to appear at an Application Support Center for purposes of collecting their photographs, signature, and fingerprints. BCIS will store this information digitally for future reference.
Despite the need to appear in person at a local BCIS office, electronic filing should streamline the application process for some of the most heavily-used immigration applications. In the fall of 2003, BCIS plans to extend online filing to other forms such as the I-129, Petition for a Nonimmigrant Worker, I-131, Application for Travel Document, and I-907, Request for Premium Processing Service, among others.
Once they receive a receipt number, aliens who submitted online applications will be able to monitor their progress by using the BCIS online case status service.
Details of the filing process, such as fee payment, how a receipt notice is communicated, how long it takes to get one, whether applications with missing information will be rejected outright, how to save copies of online filings, etc., are not yet known.
