Seminar discusses development in Bangor region

October 20, 2011

BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) --- As Bangor continues to lay the foundation for a new arena, some are already thinking about what future development could mean for the region.

The Maine Real Estate Development Association held a seminar Wednesday morning focused on development in and around the Queen City. Those in attendance included area leaders as well as directors of several organizations.

Supporters of development feel that promoting infrastructure projects will play a key role in the future economy of the region. Those who spoke at the seminar say that the path to success will lie through developments based on businesses partnering with local governments.

Organizers also feel that municipalities themselves should think about entering into partnerships and sharing staff in order to attract more development to this region.

"As Ben Franklin said back in the revolutionary period, 'We must all hang together or most assuredly we will hang separately,' " said attorney Andrew Hamilton of 'Eaton Peabody,' which sponsored the seminar, "We need collaboration. We need to labor together and we can no longer be stuck with municipal boundaries, we have to think regionally about these issues."

Eastern Maine Development Corporation is currently working on a marketing plan and a website for the Bangor region in order to help attract future development.
