Executive Branch: Lobby Law Expanded

September 07, 2007

The 123rd Maine Legislature enacted a change to Maine lobbying law (Public Law 373) that expands the definition of lobbying to communication with executive branch officials regarding proposed legislation -- but not executive branch rulemaking. The term "executive branch officials" includes major policy-influencing positions listed in specific statutes. However, lobbying the executive branch does not include serving on an appointed task force or stakeholder group.
