Eaton Peabody Supports Komen from North to South
September 23, 2011
PORTLAND/BANGOR, MAINE - Sept. 23, 2011 Eaton Peabody employees and their family members came out in mass to support the Maine Affiliate of Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure by participating in both the Portland and Bangor Races for the Cure.
As a sponsor, they walked, they ran, they volunteered - joining over 1,600 others at the 2011 Race in Portland. Only in its second year, the Portland Race exceeded last year’s Race in both participants and donations raising more than $140,000. The following week, Eaton Peabody joined over 5,000 others at the 2011 Bangor Race. Celebrating its 15th anniversary, the Bangor Race raised more than $300,000 with reported additional donations still rolling in.
Eaton Peabody’s Billing Coordinator, Sue Chandler, who has participated in and volunteered at the Race for the Cure for the past six years, put in double duty this year by volunteering at both Races.
“This is my third year working as volunteer in The Shop for the Cure,” said Chandler, “The day of the Bangor race, we sold over $6,300 worth of merchandise with all proceeds going to Komen Maine - we couldn’t be more pleased.”
Eaton Peabody alum Nicole Behr also manned The Shop for The Cure and created a homemade quilt that was raffled off to raise additional funds.

Participating in the Portland Race were the following attorneys and staff members: Carol Applebee, Bonnie Campbell, Sue Chandler, Sara Cromwell, Ed Feibel, Bill Ferdinand, John Loyd, Noreen Patient, Jeff Spaulding and Sandy Young along with various family members.
Participating in the Bangor Race were the following attorneys, staff members and alums: Nicole Behr, Tamrah Brown, Sue Chandler, Karen Huber, Veronica LaChapelle, Nate Martell, and Noreen Patient.
Eaton Peabody attorney, Noreen Patient, currently serves as the Acting President of the Komen Maine Affiliate.
“Earlier this year, the Komen Maine Affiliate invested $345,000 in community programs focused on improving breast cancer education, awareness, screening and treatment in Maine," said Patient.
“Komen Maine also invested $114,000 in breast cancer research this year through the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Grants Program. Eaton Peabody is pleased to sponsor and participate in Komen’s two signature fundraising events, the Portland and Bangor Races for the Cure, and show its continued support for Komen and its mission to end breast cancer forever.”
About ‘Susan G. Komen for the Cure’
Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. In 1982, that promise became ‘Susan G. Komen for the Cure’, which launched the global breast cancer movement. Today, ‘Komen for the Cure’ is the world’s largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists fighting to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all, and energize science to find the cures. Thanks to events like the Komen Race for the Cure, nearly $1 billion has been raised, becoming the largest source of non-profit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world.
