Bangor Attorney to Lead Business Law Section of the Maine State Bar Association

MAINE, February 3, 2011 - The Maine State Bar Association Business Law Section has selected Bangor attorney David M. Austin to serve as section chair for 2011.

Austin is a business law attorney at Eaton Peabody, a Bangor-based law firm where he has extensive experience in a variety of corporate and securities law matters. Listed in Best Lawyers in America since 2008, Austin advises a variety of business clients in connection with mergers and acquisitions, entity selection and start-up, corporate governance, venture capital financings, private equity financings and SEC compliance. He joined Eaton Peabody in 1998, was named shareholder in 2003 and has chaired Eaton Peabody's Business Law Practice Group since 2007.

Austin's practice also is well versed in business succession planning and provides counsel to shareholders and other business owners regarding a variety of business transition issues. Beyond his notable experience representing local community financial institutions, he has significant knowledge and experience representing clients in the timberlands and aquaculture industries.

In addition, Austin is a member of the American and Penobscot County Bar Associations, a member of the Brewer School Committee and a member of the University of Maine Foundation Board of Directors. He received his JD from the University of Maine School of Law, cum laude, in 1998 and his BA from the University of Maine in 1990.

As Chair, Austin will focus on working with members of the Business Law Section in guiding changes to Maine's Business Corporation Act and Maine's new Limited Liability Company Act. In addition, he will work with other attorneys to establish a new standing committee of lawyers that will periodically review and suggest changes to the laws that governing partnerships, limited liability companies and other unincorporated businesses in Maine.
