State Planning Office adopts amendment to the Comprehensive Plan Review Rule – October 15, 2007

 

The State Planning Office has adopted amendments to the rule regarding review of municipal comprehensive plans for consistency with the Growth Management Act. These amendments, which were based on input from municipalities, planners and others, make a number of changes that are intended to make the process more predictable and focused. Changes include:

  • - Streamline and clarify the consistency review process
  • - Checklist for plan contents
  • - Focus the consistency review more on the land use plan
  • - Procedure for appeal of SPO staff decision on consistency with the Act
  • - Minimum requirements for consistency
  • - More emphasis on regional planning, services, and capital investments
  • - Define growth areas based on the location of municipal capital investments
