Eaton Peabody Consulting to Help Plan BNAS Closure - May 18, 2006

BRUNSWICK - Eaton Peabody Consulting, LLC (EPCG), along with Matrix Design Group, Inc., have been selected as a consulting team to the State of Maine. The consulting team is charged with the task of preparing a master plan for reuse of the Brunswick Naval Air Station (BNAS).

Eaton Peabody Consultant Greg Mitchell prompted teaming with Colorado-based Matrix Design Group largely due to their ample experience with national military base closure. “Matrix Design is a veteran of base closure planning,” said Mitchell. “If the EPCG wanted to be part of the BNAS project, I knew we would have to partner with a firm with proven base closure experience.”

The Brunswick Local Redevelopment Authority selected Matrix Design Group based on a resume grossing over 50 military base closure projects, and a strategy that relies heavily upon local knowledge and experience of the State of Maine. Eaton Peabody Consulting is one of the Maine based firms to join the team. The consulting team’s expertise ranges from engineering to strategic planning. EPCG’s contribution will be to focus upon adaptive reuse analysis of existing buildings and overall support in the strategic planning process.

Mitchell also boasts over twenty years of experience working with municipalities and businesses fostering economic growth in Maine. As former Lewiston Assistant City Administrator, he was involved in supporting over $300 million in new development over an eight year span. Mitchell was instrumental in the redevelopment of the existing building reuse efforts for the Bates Mill Complex, a project that created 2,200 jobs in eight years.

“Thinking about the possibilities that the BNAS site and my fellow team members could propose excites me,” added Mitchell, “It’s an honor to be a part of the project.”
