AUGUSTA, MAINE - September 29, 2009 Eaton Peabody Consulting Group, LLC., a leader in providing economic development consulting services to both private business and development minded communities in Maine, has announced the addition of former Brunswick Town Manager Don Gerrish to its consulting staff.
Gerrish has over 37 years of experience in town and city management in the State of Maine and brings to Eaton Peabody's municipal practice his extensive experience in all facets of municipal government .
"We are very pleased to have someone with Don's broad reputation and experience join our Municipal Services Group," said Eaton Peabody Managing Partner, Dan McKay.
"His addition furthers our objective to bring value to our municipal clients by providing a broad range of both legal and consulting services in a single integrated package."
Recently retired from the Town of Brunswick after serving 19 years as Town Manager, Gerrish previously managed the Town of Gorham and worked for the Cities of Auburn and Rockland. He will provide services to the firm's municipal and quasi municipal clients from Eaton Peabody's Augusta office concentrating on relationship development, goal setting, budget preparation, and staffing.
"My involvement in the Maine Town and City Managers Association for the last 35 years has given me the opportunity to work with many of the finest managers in the state," Gerrish stated, "and I look forward to continuing this working relationship in my new capacity as a consultant with Eaton Peabody."
In 1996 Gerrish was elected by his international peer group, The International City/County Managers Association, to serve as its President. He traveled throughout the US and Europe meeting managers and discussing issues facing their communities.
Gerrish also has served as the Chairman of the Ethics Committees of both The International City Management Association and the Maine Town and City Manager's Association. He also assisted Bath and Topsham in founding the first Brunswick/Bath/Topsham Economic Development Organization, now known as the Midcoast Council of Governments. Gerrish will be speaking at the "Finding and Keeping Great Managers" workshop at the Maine Municipal Association's Convention in Augusta on Wednesday, October 7, 2009.
"I am excited to have Don working for the consulting group. His presence will serve to further our mission to assist municipalities in their organizational development efforts. I am equally excited to be teamed with Don once again to help communities focus on strategic planning and project development," adds Mat Eddy, Eaton Peabody Consulting Group's Executive Director.
"With Don's addition to our team, Eaton Peabody Consulting Group can provide a unique support system for communities looking for assistance and quality improvement."
Gerrish met annually with his elected officials to set realistic Council goals that would best help them prepare their multi- million dollar municipal budget. He has experience in personnel issues/union contracts and federal relation issues affecting municipalities such as the closing of the Brunswick Naval Air Station.
In his capacity as the Town Manager of Brunswick, Gerrish developed a positive relationship with the School Superintendent that allowed for collaborative decision making on School/Town issues not common in other communities. He created open and direct working relationships with the administrations of Bowdoin College and the University of Southern Maine.
Gerrish graduated from the University of Maine in 1972 with a degree in Public Management and is a resident of Brunswick.
