Eaton Peabody Consulting Group and Maine Tomorrow Join Forces

January 06, 2011

BANGOR/AUGUSTA - Eaton Peabody Consulting Group (EPCG) has announced that it has acquired Maine Tomorrow.  Both are well known Maine-based consulting firms.  The combined entity will operate under the EPCG name and will be based at 77 Sewall Street in Augusta.  It will offer a range of consulting services to both the public and private sectors, as well as to nonprofit organizations.

EPCG Executive Director, Mat Eddy, former Director of Economic and Community Development for Brunswick and Westbrook, will continue as the Executive Director of EPCG.   John Melrose, former Commissioner of the Maine Department of Transportation and the principal and founder of Maine Tomorrow, has joined EPCG on a full time basis as a senior consultant.

The combination of Maine Tomorrow and EPCG creates the largest consulting firm of its kind in Maine.  Its roster of consultants includes a number of well known former public officials, including Eddy and Melrose, with over 100 years of combined experience.

"The combination of skill sets resulting from joining forces will permit us to provide a unique bundle of services to communities, businesses, and non-profit organizations," said Executive Director Mat Eddy.  "We at EPCG are very excited about the opportunities this combination presents."

The combined entity will offer consulting services throughout Maine, Atlantic Canada and New England.  Its core activities will include assisting private companies, non profits and municipal governments with economic development projects, trade association management, public sector leadership transition and development, municipal budgeting, debt resolution, tax/loan programs and risk management services.  It will also offer a range of other public policy services, tapping Melrose's broad policy experience, and will continue to provide lobbying and related government relations services.

Management Services

Shelley Doak, Tanya Bentley and Valerie Geredien will lead EPCG's trade association management group.  This group will continue to provide comprehensive management services to a number of trade associations, including the Maine Grocers Association, Maine Food Producers Alliance, American Council of Engineering Companies of Maine, Kennebec Valley Tourism Council, and Maine Apartment Owners and Managers Association. The group also offers a range of management services to nonprofit organizations.

Mat Eddy, Don Gerrish and Dick Metivier will continue to lead EPCG's municipal management group, putting to work decades of combined experience in municipal management.  The group provides a wide array of services, including town manager transition assistance, budgeting, finance, debt resolution, risk management and leadership development services.

Economic Development Services

Eddy, Melrose and John Holden lead EPCG's economic development group.  The group has broad experience in both the public and private sectors and is widely known for its creativity and ability to facilitate both the attraction and implementation of economic development projects. They have received particular recognition for their work in the fields of wind energy, transportation and downtown redevelopment.

Government Relations and Public Policy

EPCG's government relations and public policy group draws on the experience and expertise of a former Chief of Staff to several Maine Senate Presidents, a Cabinet member from Governor King's Administration, the former Head of FHWA in Maine and a Maine Department Division Manager.  Led by John Melrose and Rick McCarthy, this group has addressed public policy initiatives in such fields as transportation finance, affordable housing, service center revitalization, workers' compensation, environmental protection and historic preservation. The group, in coordination with the Legislative Affairs Group at Eaton Peabody, provides cost effective advocacy before Maine's Legislature, Congressional delegation and municipal bodies, as well as federal, state and local executive agencies.
