Charette meeting for ALL Presque Isle residents and stakeholders to present consultant plans for the future of the Downtown area

November 09, 2011

The City of Presque Isle is holding two Charette sessions on Thursday, November 17th at the Northeastland Hotel located at 436 Main Street, Presque Isle. Representatives from Eaton Peabody Consulting Group will be here to receive feedback and suggestions on the proposed redesign of downtown traffic patterns intended to improve the attraction of this core commercial center. Following discussion and feedback on the traffic plans, the public will be invited to comment on and offer ideas for redeveloping land parcels in the downtown now under City ownership. The presentations are open to the public and will take place from 3:30pm – 5:30pm and 6:30pm – 8:30pm.

This planning effort reflects Presque Isle’s desire to reclaim its traditional downtown and make it the center and heart of the City. Every city should have a unique place that fosters community interaction and fun. The Downtown should and can be that place for Presque Isle residents and tourists alike. Presque Isle is at the heart of Aroostook County and is a major player in the County’s economic life which presents a grand opportunity to increase its economic impact through responsible redevelopment.

City Manager Jim Bennett stated, “The main goal of this planning process is to create a more effective Downtown area that generates economic growth. We value Presque Isle resident’s thoughts and opinions and hope to see a good turnout at the two Charette sessions”.
